Yuv's Games

When I was only 6 years old, I saw my sister playing Java games on FreeArcade (link). I memorized the site's address and visited it when I could use the computer. This was when my web gaming experience began. The first game I played there was Super Mouse (commonly called Superm), an interesting low-fps platform game possibly meant to resemble Mario games, with a mouse replacing Mario. I then looked around the site some more, and found a game that, in a long chain reaction, made me start liking atmospheric games and environments - Wicky Woo. This is not even close to the end, though. I browsed almost all the site's sections, and eventually found a Flash game called Starship Seven. It was one of my favorite games there, despite its difficulty. The game was so exceptionally good for me that I went to their site, Neodelight (link). That was the site where I posted my first ever post on any forum, helping somebody change his screen resolution. I liked a lot of games on that site, but one of my favorites was Pandaf Golf, which - again - was so exceptionally appealing that I visited Pandaf's site and joined the PandaForum. People were very rude to me on there, because most of my posts were kind of spammy. Eventually I left the forum.

Neodelight had a unique feature. They specified which company or site made each game. Some fun games there were made by ArcadeTown, so I went there and, once again, found a whole lot of new amazing games. On ArcadeTown I also started to actively download freeware games and free trials of shareware games. A lot of shareware games there were great; for example, Wik and the Fable of Souls was an amazing game with an underused, if not original, concept.

One of these simple days, I was browsing ArcadeTown... and found a puzzle game called Wonderland Secret Worlds. By looking at the thumbnail only, I thought it was a game with smilies from the Smiley Central! I downloaded it, and it was undoubtedly one of the most enjoyable games I've played. I really wanted to get the full version of that game, but then a friend told me about the game's site and about the expansion pack, Return To Wonderland, that had a level editor. I decided to get Return To Wonderland instead of Wonderland Secret Worlds.

And after a few months, during the summer vacation, yet another simple day comes, when I get Return To Wonderland. I was hooked on the game and went to bed that night at 4:30 AM. The levels I made were mostly about gameplay elements and speed. Eventually I came across the Wonderland forum and met a lot of people who I now chat with, and I also saw a lot of other good games posted there. I saw the game Within a Deep Forest there, and decided to give it a try. It was amazing. At about that time I also bought Game Maker 6 and started creating my own games.

After playing Knytt (a game by Nicklas Nygren, the creator of Within a Deep Forest), I suddenly realized I had an extremely strong sense of atmosphere in games. I tried to make my games as atmospheric as I could, since then. My attempts were OK, but failed compared to Knytt. I then realized that a really atmospheric game is one that reminds me of certain moments in certain past days. Knytt does that really well.

When I returned to playing the Wonderland series games, I started liking levels with lots of natural-looking floor tiles, houses, and decorations - levels that make me feel like there is actually a blue background above the level even though there isn't one. After playing more games by the creator of Knytt, I eventually became a minimalist. And now? Now, I'm a game and tool developer, music composer, and font designer. I'm still trying to create overworld areas that feel as if they have some sky above them, and I do think I'm getting much better over time. The thing I found amazing is that only TWO people managed to completely change my look at life, in a good way, without knowing it. They are Patrick Maidorn and Nicklas Nygren. I am extremely grateful for them.
